The series has plateaued

Volume 18 picks up with Son Goku stepping into the ring first with Cell and right away I was thinking that something was up. The guy who goes first never wins, and Son Goku’s the hero of the story, so it was an interesting choice of Akira Toriyama’s to open with the unexpected.

And, y’know what, Goku’s fight with Cell is awesome. It’s great, it’s exciting, it’s everything readers of this series have come to expect from Toriyama. So why wasn’t I as engaged as I usually am with Dragon Ball Z?

It comes down to repetition, which is a major factor in this series. It’s a fine line too because some repetition works really well - Cell as the unstoppable villain like Freeza and Vegeta before him, the Strongest Under the Heavens tournament model - but some of the repeated stuff in this book just didn’t click.

Goku suddenly calling a halt in the middle of the fight because he knows he can’t beat Cell, rather than be shocking, felt inevitable and reminded me of the final battle he had with (I think?) Tenshinhan in the original Dragon Ball series. Of course that’s why he went first. Then Cell unleashes a bunch of mini-Cells to fight the rest of the Dragon Ball cast to keep them busy and that felt a lot like Volume 2 of the series when Vegeta sets loose a bunch of monsters.

And then, of course, Son Goku’s son, Gohan, steps in, and you know what’s going to happen: Gohan’s going to beat Cell. It all seems very rote, predictable, and done-before. It’s not that this book is bad, it’s just that at this point, 34 volumes in, we might’ve come to the extent of Toriyama’s invention - he now can’t do anything new and has to go back and redo everything with different characters.

So it’s up to Gohan to defeat Cell and… I don’t really care! You know he’s going to, and then Goku will step back and the series focus will shift to Gohan and blah blah blah. I’ll keep reading of course but this whole Cell story arc has been very weak and it might mark the beginning of the downfall of the series - will it pick up after this or is it all downhill from here? Volume 18 is a decent continuation of the series but nothing overly surprising or special.

People might wonder how this book went by so fast. Alot of people just love it so much they read it in 15 minutes. I am one of those people. I really enjoyed this manga. I would also get Volumes 19 and 17 just to kind of get more info and finish a great chapter. This book you read pretty fast, but it is very action packed. This basically is a fine work of literary work and the pictures are great! It is Just plain old good!

A Valuable Resource For Implementing and Maintaining Security and Privacy On The Internet

If you think there is little to nothing you can do to maintain some sort of security and privacy when accessing the Internet, think again. The author of this book has provided information on a number of security products and strategies for the reader to choose from depending on his or her Internet activities and preferences. What I especially like about this book, even more than the many useful products and associated links, is the way the author expands on many of the products' descriptions and usage to help the reader establish a security "mindset". Having spent 20 years actively involved in the computer security field for a major financial institution, I consider this mindset to be critical for an Internet user if privacy and security are to be achieved and maintained.

There are many key topics covered in this book. First of all, the author provides considerable information on the highly effective Tor Project software, one of the most important tools for achieving privacy and anonymity on the Internet. Maybe you have a need for temporary e-mail addresses that forward mail to a "real" e-mail address? You will find out about products that do that too (I have made extensive use of one for years called GishPuppy). Or software for generating strong passwords, tactics for keeping your E-mails private, encrypting stored date, and tips on keeping financial transactions private including a nice section on Bitcoin. Plus there's more such as security considerations when using social networks, recommendations for Google Chrome and Mozilla Firefox extensions as well as mobile apps. There is much to like in this book.

I was provided with a copy of this book in exchange for my honest review and feel fortunate in receiving it. Some of the products and strategies mentioned I was familiar with but there were others that were completely new to me. Highly recommended - both for those new to computer security and privacy issues as well as more seasoned users.

Offers More Information Than I'd Have Believed Possible

When Rob Robideau offered me a review copy of his e-book "Incognito Toolkit: Tools, Apps and Creative Methods for Remaining Anonymous, Private and Secure While Communicating, Publishing, Buying and Researching Online" (whew--the title is long enough to be the whole review!), I really didn't know what to expect. As a casual Internet user, but not a computer or communications expert by any means, I thought I already knew enough about online security issues to at least use secure passwords, and to take certain obvious, rudimentary steps to protect my privacy and personal information whilst browsing the Web.

As it turns out, I knew nothing.

Mr. Robideau's book is an amazing resource that contains more detailed, useful, nuts-and-bolts information than I would have believed he could cram into it. It's chock-full of techniques, tips and tricks that any and all Internet users need to know in order to protect themselves online. Oh, I suppose the NSA could defeat many or all of them, but at least Mr. Robideau offers practical ways for users to control the hemorrhaging of their personal information onto the Internet, and its possible use by unscrupulous parties.

His book is much more than first meets the eye. It also features embedded links to websites to hit for more information on many of the topics, and from which you can obtain, mostly free, the software applications and browser extensions that he recommends to improve your privacy and anonymity. A couple of the links I tried produced the dreaded 404 error, but most of them are active and relevant, and thus enormously increase the book's interactivity, scope and usefulness. The Lastpass and Fake Name Generator applications, for example, especially interest me. Every Internet user should find these valuable. Some of his discussions are more technical than I could absorb completely on a first pass, and some seem intended for those with more paranoia and/or less regard for the law than I, and presumably most other readers, have. But his treatment of the subject is extremely thorough, and you can use as many or as few of his recommendations as you like. Even if you only adopt the minimum, you'll still be far better off--and far more anonymous online.

Before I read "Incognito Toolkit, etc., etc.," I didn't even know how much I didn't know about the subject. Now, armed with the valuable information and recommendations it contains, I will take steps to ensure my online privacy is protected to an appropriate degree. You should, too.

Informative, concise, and comprehensive.

I found this book packed with information that is very helpful to anyone wanting to reduce their digital footprint.
I know that I have not taken the time to gather all of the information related to doing this, but the author of this book has put in extensive time and research that in turn will save me and others the time of doing so. I learned several things while reading this book and got new ideas on how to use my information. I think that one could use this as a manual and be able to reference it frequently in order to use the tools contained within this book. This book was written with simplicity, even when talking about some of the things that some of us have never worked with before. The explanations and examples were very clear so that one who has never implemented anything like some of the tools being taught could understand very easily.

In today's age, your information is being attacked and used by criminals, governments, and corporations alike. All have varied agendas, but you are the one who suffers. Everyone should take at least some of the steps listed in this book. I feel that the information is valuable and certainly usable. It is worth the price being paid and much more since it can further protect your identity and personal information. Why do people buy products such as life-lock? For one of the many same reasons that this book was written. If these issues are important to you, then you should take a look at this book.

Pretty darn good!

When the Imperial prison barge Purge suffers thruster failure out in the boondocks, they appear to be in a lot of trouble. Hope presents itself in the form of an Imperial Star Destroyer that is nearby, apparently abandoned. And so, a team of engineers from the prison barge goes over to see if they can collect enough spare parts to repair their own ship. But, what the engineers find on the Star Destroyer is horror beyond their darkest nightmares!

OK, I must admit that I am often intrigued by crossover books - in this case one combining Star Wars and the popular zombie motif. Like all books, crossovers range from the ridiculous to the sublime, with the vast majority of them falling somewhere in between. As for myself, I found this book to be pretty darn good.

I thought that the author did a good job of combining Star Wars and zombies. I found the story to be reasonably written (the story has to be reasonable if it's going to be in Science Fiction), and yet nicely scary. Who was going to live and who was going to die? The author kept you guessing right up to the end of the book. Right, I really enjoyed this book, and don't hesitate to recommend it.

Not bad but could have been better.

Death Troopers holds much promise at the outset. Zombies in Star Wars. Need I say more? And there are zombies. My main problem is it takes so long to see them. There are 234 pgs in the novel but the Zombies only appear on page 133. I don't know about you but I want to see zombies no more than 60 pgs in (1/4), not halfway.

I was also unsatisfied with the ending. Still and all it held my attention. It was also cool to see Han and Chewbacca. Both are well written and act the way you'd expect them too, especially pre-carbonite Han.

How cool would it have been to have Boba Fett instead of Han and Chewie?

Glossy Picture book

I generally love 3Dtotal books and I am a sucker for 3Dtotal Zbrush books. I own several. Unfortunately, now this one. The inside of this book looks as amazing as the cover. 3DTotal books have outstanding production value. That is not my issue. This book has zero value to me. It has no instruction at all and is just artist's showcasing their work. Each artist is given several pages to emote about their inspiration....give me a boring break. This book is just a glossy picture book. About the title! Where is the imagination in this book? This book is like a movie that shows all the good scenes in the trailer. The cover actually tells the entire story. It is more of the same throughout the book. For the first time I am totally uninspired with a 3Dtotal book. This book looks like a million dollars but is ultimately just boring.

I loved this book

I am new to ZBrush as a serious user. That said, I loved this book. If you're looking for hardcore lessons and tutorials, this isn't the book to purchase. If you're looking for inspiration and beautiful examples of what this software is capable of, buy this now. It's a great addition to your ZBrush library and will get you excited about learning the somewhat daunting interface. Each artist is featured with examples of their work and projects and they're interviewed about their workflow. I was turned onto some brushes and techniques I didn't know about previously, but it isn't a how to instructional manual. Highly recommend for Zbrush newbies, and the more advanced for the great designs and visuals.

Nice book decent imagery. I was under the impression that it was a "tips & tricks" book. However it was only a showcase from different artists and professionals. I feel that I could get this just by looking online and not buying an expensive book.

Thorough, Yet Digestible Guidebook.

Today, most people in leadership positions of a consumer-facing organization are tasked with figuring out how to leverage consumer data to increase revenue and/or reduce costs. Many people in these positions embrace the idea of customer-centricity and comprehend that there is a proliferation of touch points on the customer journey which need to be included in a truly comprehensive view of the customer. Yet very few have had experience in a company that really does this well. So where and how to get started on this path is daunting. Artun & Levin's book is an excellent guidebook for anyone, especially for marketers, who is putting together a plan on how to leverage consumer data to make better investments with limited budgets and improve the relevancy of communication. This book is very thorough and has a good balance of breadth and depth. It seems clear that the authors understand the challenges of business leaders and wrote the book for the non-data scientist. This book provides a marketer's overview of how the data eco-system is evolving and explains the relevant concepts with getting too technical. After reading this, I feel better equipped to put together a realistic "crawl, walk, run" plan that our organization can realistically execute. One area where I felt the authors could spend a little more time is on the organizational capabilities required for scaling data-driven marketing campaigns. Chapter 14 explains the need to move away form silos and marketing calendars and recognizes that this "last mile" is where the "rubber hits the road". How to make the organizational and process changes and investments to make content development and management more dynamic could be the focus of a follow-up book.

As a young software engineer, this book allowed me to gain some solid marketing knowledge, and to see how my technical background could apply in this field, which is exactly what I was looking for when I bought it! Predictive marketing is a huge trend, and now I am confident in my ability to have an impact on the business I will be working with.
I particularly appreciated the numerous specific examples given by the authors, and the overview of the marketing tools available for today's companies. I believe this book can bridge the gap between engineers and marketers who often struggle to communicate efficiently.
Needless to say, I would totally recommend this book to anyone who wants to understand what predictive marketing is, whether you are a customer or a marketer!

A fascinating book about how predictive marketing is being widely used to maximize profits while enhancing customer experience. The authors cover both the theory (not all customers are equal) and the practice (the challenges and awaiting benefits of using predictive models).

This is a great read for experienced marketers looking for information on the existing and latest predictive analytics technologies and methods, but also for newcomers to predictive marketing who need a well-structured introduction.

Last but not least, it is also a great tool for wary consumers to gain understanding on how retailers target each of us in order to trigger consumption and build brand loyalty.

The Nobel prize-winning Guatemalan writer, ethnologist, and diplomat Asturias (1899-1974) is known to English-language readers pirmarily for his brilliant political novel El se?or presidente (1946), translated as The President (LJ 2/1/64), and a subsequent novel, Hombres de maiz (Men of Maize, LJ 8/75). Yet this prolific surrealist writer, considered the progenitor of magical realism, clearly deserves more recognition. Thus, it is a pleasure to see this present collection of ten stories, which interweave Mayan and other early Guatemalan folk myths about confronting harsh reality into tales that transcend jungle and city, space and time, waking and sleeping. Alter-Gilbert's translation has captured the power of Asturias's complex language of hallucination and violence. A surreal journey into the soul of Guatemala

"The Mirror of Lida Sal," by Miguel Angel Asturias, is a noteworthy piece of 20th century fiction by a giant of Guatemalan literature. Subtitled "Tales Based on Mayan Myths and Guatemalan Legends," this volume has been translated into English by Gilbert Alter-Gilbert.
In this book, Asturias draws upon Central American history and culture to create several fascinating short pieces. His style (as I read it through Alter-Gilbert's translation) is psychedelic and florid; Asturias mixes realistic and fantastic elements throughout the book. The result is comparable to a prose version of the paintings of Spanish artist Salvador Dali.
I don't find all of the stories in "The Mirror of Lida Sal" to be equally effective. At times, Asturias' indulgence in ornate wordplay seems to overwhelm plot and characterization. But this is still a richly rewarding volume for the attentive reader. Some of the major themes of the book include magic, transformation, and cultural hybridization.
The best pieces in the book include the title story, which tells of a working class mulatta's attempt to ensnare the man of her desire; "Anteater Juan," a bizarre fantasy; and "Legend of the Silent Bell," a story of religious fanaticism and trans-Atlantic intrigue in colonial Central America. Miguel Angel Asturias is one of the most important figures in Latin American literature, and "The Mirror of Lida Sal" is definitely worth gazing into.
