No more rules screams the title in a font reminiscent of De Stijl-ist Germanic modernism as design critic Poynor explains the changes in graphic work both before and after new electronic technologies took hold in the 1990s, with emphasis on the unleashing of creative energies occasioned by computer-assisted design. The last two decades of the twentieth century saw many of the old, tried, and true rules of graphic design abandoned as the idiosyncratic and self-expressive took precedence. The only source for this topic

This is literally one of the only books published about Postmodern graphic design. It's comprehensive in scope, history and context. If you're looking for a book about Postmodern graphic design, you won't find anything better than this.

A broad review of Postmodernism in Graphic Design

Rick Poynor gives an excellent account of the origins of and varied expressions of Postmodernism in Graphic Design. This book is a valuable starting point for investigating self expression in graphic design and how art history and literary theory informed designers to break free from the dogma of late Modernism and corporate graphic design.
